The Carrabassett Valley
Started as a passion project in early 2017 to help with living 1000 miles from home, the Carrabassett Valley or CBVR emerged onto the Trainz Forums as a small built from scratch route that had no intention of ever seeing release. Reception of the concept was well received but work was slow in those early years, as hand doing terrain, textures, and everything else for that matter was a tedious task for a route only spanning 50 miles. Fast forward to 2021 and the little handmade route has morphed to a 200+ mile behemoth based on a DEM route. With the dynamic duo Jayden (Boeingfan727) and Sean (Southern1581) the route has slowly begun to take shape over the last few years. The two find themselves neck deep under the weight of such a gargantuan project but ever willing to see to it that the project finds its way toward completion. The route itself will challenge the user through its ever changing terrain, differing with each mile put behind you. Stretching from Bangor Maine in the East, to Farmington in the West, Waterville in the South and Lac Megantic Quebec in the North the route will provide a unforgettable journey as you make you way between some of Maine’s largest communities. End to end can take anywhere from around 5 to 7 hours if you don’t mess up along the way. But fear not! You are not required to run the entire length to find things to do. The well thought out system can allow you to properly dispatch trains while you handle the dirty work of Local jobs, or switching in the yards and there’s plenty of that to do rest be assured. But if you think what you have to run the grades, we won’t stop you! Just be sure to grab enough helpers before setting out! From the highlands of Penobscot County, to the Mountains of the Carrabassett. From the ponds and lakes that attract the spirit of the outdoorsmen to the rivers and streams that unleash the wild spirit of the thrill seekers. The CBVR will provide you with many scenic opportunities, so much so you may forget about the train you were attempting to take up a 2.5% grade. There is no set release date as again the route is very large. But if you are curious about following the progress of the CBVR be sure to join us on Discord where you can get frequent updates of the project as well as live stream notifications when we showcase route building!
